Keep your browser tuned up if you manage your own website content
Those of us who own and operate websites tend to use our browsers a little bit differently that the rest of the world. Specifically, we will need to visit and refresh the same page multiple times in order to see our beautiful changes taking place.
Why you may not see the newest content
Your browser is attempting to help you out by storing temporary internet files on your computer to speed up browsing. This is called the “Cache”. When you visit a page that you have previously visited, the browser serves up the content from the temporary folder – and not necessarily from the actual website. This can be a bad thing for those who are frequently changing their own website.
Clearing the cache
Clearing the cache and deleting those stored cookies is suggested if you want to see the most current content as you post it to your website. The technique will vary depending upon which browser you use.
Internet Explorer 8
- From the “Safety” menu, click “Delete Browsing History”
- Check Temporary Internet files and History, and then click Delete
Internet Explorer 7
- From the “Tools” menu, select “Internet Options”
- Choose the “General” tab
- Under “Browsing History” click Delete
- Next to “Temporary Internet Files” click Delete
- You could also click “DELETE ALL” at bottom of box
- Then click “Settings”
- Select “Every time I visit the webpage”
- Click OK
Firefox 3
- From the “Tools” menu, select “Clear Private Data”
- Then “Tools”, “Options”, “Privacy”
- Select “Always clear my private data when I close Firefox”
Making those adjustments will make it much easier when things seem to be just a little crazy. Just close your browser completely and re-open it. |
